The crimping function of the irons worked great and totally sealed the bread edges! Highly recommend them!
I have had one of these pie irons for many years. I love the quality of the product and how it performs. The cast iron toaster is highly durable and has crimped edges that seal most sizes of bread. It is ideal for making pizza or fruit pies over the campfire. I decided to purchase another one for myself and one for my son's family.
You could quibble with some of the finishing flaws you'll see on the cast iron, but after one use you'll understand why this is the best pie iron on the market. I've found that it actually does a great job sealing even slightly undersized or slightly oddly shaped bread. It takes a few pies before the iron releases reliably, but once it gets broken in, it does a great job. My experience has been that the pies in the C. Palmer tend to cook a bit quicker than my Roma, which is nice when you're making pies for 12 people. I also like that the iron doesn't come apart and I love that it stays in perfect alignment every time. The wood handles are very nicely done. This is probably the best pie iron money can buy.
I purchased these as a gift for my maid of honor in my wedding, and was blown away when I opened them. These are gorgeous, so well-made and of the highest quality I have ever seen. We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and are no strangers to outdoor cooking utensils. I love the crimping on the edges that guarantee the pies close shut. I am proud to give these heirloom cooking instruments to my best friend, and was proud to make the purchase from this company. My great-grandfather was also an Italian immigrant to the United States in the late 19th century, and there's no type of business I would rather support more. Thank you for this amazing product! I have looked all over for these pie makers. I have used many pie makers from all over , but this is the only one that crimps the edges. Now with my grandkids I only go with time tested and straight from the factory cookers
